Octopus Agile prices in Northern Scotland

Northern Scotland is region P on Octopus Agile. The figures below come from the last 30 days of real half-hourly prices, calibrated 2026-10-29 and refreshed daily.

When is it usually cheapest?

WindowTimeAverage per kWh
Cheapest three hours12:00–15:0028.5p
Best overnight02:00–05:0029.5p
Peak — avoid16:00–19:0054.9p

In other words, a load of washing run at the evening peak in Northern Scotland costs 1.9× what it costs in the cheapest window — same machine, same clothes.

On the original Agile tariff? If you joined before 2022 you may still be on the first version. It prices identically to the current one at every half-hour, but caps the unit rate at 35p — so Northern Scotland's typical peak of 54.9p is billed at 35p, making the gap 1.2× rather than 1.9×. The cheap windows are unaffected: the cap only ever bites above 35p, which is the stretch this page tells you to avoid anyway.

The hours are national. The bill is regional.

This surprises people. Agile follows a single national wholesale market, so all fourteen regions bottom out at much the same hours — around 1pm, and again around 2am — and peak in the late afternoon. The regional difference is not when power is cheap. It is how cheap.

Northern Scotland is one of the country's dearer regions, 14 of fourteen and 5.3p per kWh above East Midlands. That higher floor is precisely why timing matters more here, not less: the gap between peak and trough does not shrink because you live somewhere expensive.

What counts as cheap here?

Measured against Northern Scotland's own last 30 days, 25.6p or less counts as cheap and anything above 41p counts as expensive. Those thresholds differ region by region, which is why this site grades prices against where you live rather than nationally — a dear region measured on a national scale would show red all day and never tell you anything.
